*Thirty Five Years Ago

The fledgling video game business was struggling to make a name for itself as it competed with toys, playing cards and board games for customers. The early games like Pong, Pac Man and Donkey Kong were very basic in terms of technology, and they had very little creativity involved with their designs and functions. Today, the computer online game industry is a multi billion dollar extravaganza that has progressed increasingly, and it is starting to steal some of the spotlight from the glamorous motion picture industry.

With technological advances like the next generation motion capture systems, high definition graphics, Dolby Sound and Motion Sensor Remote controls that enable the players to actually get up off their chairs and get some exercise as they kick, punch, jump, fish, swing, golf and dance their way through sessions, video games have become more than just toys. They are an escape that offers a whole new reality. Kids and adults alike are playing Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii games more than ever before and the industry itself is getting bigger and bigger every day.

But there is one great advantage that video games have over movies, and that is that they offer interaction. You can actually be involved with what is happening on the screen, instead of just watching it like you do at a theater. This gives you the feeling of empowerment that you just do not get from watching movies. These games offer more than an escape, they offer a journey into another world where your actions have no real negative consequences on yourself.

Video games have come a long way since the days of Pong, Pac Man and Donkey Kong. While the Video Game Awards are not quite the Oscars yet, they are certainly on a pace to give them a run for their money in the future in terms of publicity. Celebrities are starting to notice that the spotlight on Hollywood is being shared by a newcomer to the world of entertainment, and they are following the light, as they do naturally. It is an inevitable natural progression, much like the relationship between a whale and a pilot fish. Big celebrity names are starting to integrate into the computer game industry, and as this happens it only means more publicity for both parties involved. This is ultimately good for gamers too, for as the industry gets bigger and bigger, the games and the consoles will only get better and better.

Recently, many new online gaming services have been introduced. The world is having a visible affect on the online gaming industry, as more and more people turned towards playing and enjoying online games. Games on the Internet were once an imaginary phrase, but since the introduction of thousands of user friendly and easy operating games on the Internet, people are finding that fiction has become reality.

*Chill out and Play Games

One of the best ways the majority of us relax, stay engaged, stave off boredom, or even burn away hours at work is to play games video games, online computer games (if you dont know there are probably a few addictive games in your word program, right?), or online games.

While we now know, too, that when you play games (of any mode and of certain types), those games help to sharpen some of our mental faculties, Alzheimers, and, in my coo-coo world, the insanity of such needful mental aberrations as ADD, ADHD, and OCDthough this last benefit is not necessarily empirically proven. There has been quite a bit of research done on this topic and you can bet there will be a whole lot more to come.

So lets sit back, kick our shoes off, and relax playing your favorit games.

Will we see the feminization of video games in the future?
By large, modern media is pretty much "politically correct" and even feminized in certain area.

It seem like video game is one of the very few, if not the only form of media in modern society that isn't "politically correct" and haven't been feminized. As a gamer I'm glad, and hope that It'll stay that way.

But will it stay that way forever? Do you feel that video games will become more feminized in the future? I really hope not.

i think you have the right to put whatever you want into a game.

As long as you give it the appropriate ESRB rating.

You can't censor that kind of stuff.

Maybe that will change in the future, but i dont see any rational people trying to PC the video games.

I mean they're about entertainment, not about being PC

Does it matter?

I hope not.. what if CJ wasn't allowed to call those women "hoes" while cruising the streets of San Andreas. That's what got me hooked on that game, un-PC.

I hope not.

Video games are not politically correct because the majority of gamers aren't radical feminists. The chicks who do play video games could really care less about "feminizing" 'em.

I don't care what they put into video games…..

I do care that some parents don't care enough about there kids to know what they are exposing them to….but that's not the video games fault.

I'm a gamer too, and I like them just the way they are. It's simple, if you don't like a certain game, don't play it.

One of my favorites is Tenchu: Stealth Assassins.
To Vianka, you can choose to play as a female or male ninja.

If so, I'll make my own violent, politically inappropriate video games and sell them to you for the low low price of just $79.95 each.

I hope not. Video games are one of the few things that political correctness of any sort, feminism or not, hasn't taken over yet. That's the way I like it.

I hope so, because there is to much violence in video games.

I don't play games so it doesn't really affect me but since EVERYTHING else is being feminized these days I'm sad to say that it's probably only a matter of time.

Some games might be designed for women but boys don't need to buy them. Boys and girls aren't the same in general boys like action, cars, wars, and loud noise so they will make them games they like. If they want to get girls and women playing they need things females like. Wii is coming out with a weight loss game advertised to women. My niece who turned 9 today likes Wii basketball, she is really into sports like soccer and marshal arts but never played with soldiers like her brother.
Makers should target boys or girl or men or women when they make games not try to make them one game fits all. I have no interest at all in my boyfriend's games they are noisy and fast moving like race cars.
No need to make boys and girls play the same games.

I do not think video games in the future will be "feminized" in the way that you are suggesting they might. However, I do think that more video/computer games will be made and marketed towards females. Men already make up such a huge percentage of the market that the companies producing the games still (and probably always will) cater to men and only occassionally throw us ladies one every so often to keep us somewhat appeased.

Fortunately there are a variety of different game genres to choose from. There will always be shooters so I don't think you have anything to worry about. I happen to really like the adventure genre, but those games seem fewer and far between. Sometimes I worry that they will stop making the adventure games.

I'lI have to admit, I own GTAIII – It's fun to play the bad guy sometimes! The only bummer part is that I have to play a guy in that game (they should at least let the female players have an option to play one of the prostitutes hehe). And in a lot of shooter games they don't let you choose a female character to play. I don't think that by making female chararacters available for play would necessarily mean that the game is being "feminized" though.

Optimus Prime: GTAIV is coming out on April 29th.

Here's the things with games:

Everyone has their own genre(s) they play, I personally love games like Devil May Cry, BloodRayne, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Heavenly Sword, Trapped, things like that….you see a lot of strong women in those games, if you like FPS and racing games then you won't see the same things.

You may not see strong women in the kinds of games you play, but again, it all goes by the gamer's tastes, thats one thing the gaming industry is good at, they make games for all kinds instead of trying to make everyone happy with one type of game.

No because video games and the internet are the REASON tv is becoming feminised. Women did not leave tv for the computer of console to the same extend as men. Although attempts are being made to publish vid games for women, those are media that can be taiolored for each target group individually, while tv panders to the largest avaiable target group, women.
Gears of wars was one non stop adrenalin pump from start to finish with ridiculous ammount of gore and I dont see that trend stopping.

Yeah, we'll lose GTA's.. (one pic of the player beating up a woman.. nevermind the countless other pics of him beating and shooting men, this game is abot violence against women), We'll lose realistic WWII games (women did NOT fight that war, and don't show me single cases to prove me wrong). We'll lose Mario games because the only women around are princesses and not "career women"….

Games aren't feminine or masculine – they're just games, that anyone can enjoy. I'm a huge gamer, and for example, my fave games are Devil May Cry & Dark Sector ^_^
